The first run of fids on general offer is now ready. This is third run I’ve made but the others were all distributed privately. I have two with slight errors in making beyond what is on purpose, and they are priced a bit lower.

Here is a picture of this entire run, in order, see the slideshow for pictures of the individual items.

Fids 1 and 2 are a wood I have not been able to identify yet, but I like the way these branches grew with a strong curve at the start, and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the wood looked. I tapered the end of these two towards the point so using the portable design was not practical. These are workbench fids.

Fid 3 is Russian Olive. The only power tool used is when drilling the hole for the spike. My fathers motto for power tools was “Ruin more wood faster!”. I slipped a bit with the drill so the very end of the hole is not quite what I would want. See the slides for a closeup of the error.  This is another workbench fid.  The dark color of the center wood is characteristic of this tree.

Fid 4 is apple wood. This one also has a slight slip of the drill, not as visible as on the previous fid.

Fid 5 is Aspen. Aspen is not a particularly hard or fine-grained wood, but it has a nice feel of being local to the Colorado mountains where I live and was used for that reason.

Fid 6 and 7 are apple wood. Fid 7 has a shorter spike and the curve of the branch gives it something of a pistol grip.

Fids 8, 9 (sold) and 10 are cherry. Fid 8 is a particularly light color for this wood due to the youth of the branch it came from.
