Here is a 5 Lead x 4 Bight, and a 7L x 6B Square Turks head knot. There are a lot of videos available on how to tie these two knots, but I saw none that teach you how to do it in a way that you can remember it later. So I decided to make one for you. ( And of course you can use my fids to help tighten up the knot if you want.)

All these videos are made on my cell phone, so the quality is not very good but I hope you can see what you need to. When I get a chance I’ll see if I can get it any better.

  • Jon, do you remember me tying Turks heads & other knots w/ you when you were a very young kid? – -The story of sailor getting free drinks in Singapore by tying come-along knots with an oiled hemp rope to move a bar off its floor position? I used to demonstrate that knot in my physics classes.
[Sharpen the video w/ better definition & your lesson would be super]
    Love you! -dad

  • I sure do remember that. Although I did not remember exactly how to tie all the knots you showed us, it started my interest in knots and rope-work. I had to re-learn it all but it’s come in come in handy for everything from whipmaking to building a palapa veranda in Mexico.
(Sorry the video quality is not up to snuff – i just have a cell-phone camera.)
